A forward-thinking and well-established small animal practice in Buckinghamshire is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join the team during an exciting period of expansion and clinical development. This role is ideal for a confident vet who values high standards, teamwork, and continuous improvement in a supportive, no-ego environment.

The Practice

This independent-minded practice places genuine emphasis on culture, sustainability, and clinical excellence. It holds recognised environmental and cat-friendly accreditations and is committed to doing things properly — for patients, clients, and colleagues alike.

The practice is currently undergoing a significant expansion, adding a dedicated dental suite, advanced imaging and CT facilities, larger wards, additional consult rooms and theatres, and improved colleague spaces. These developments are designed to support clinical ambition while maintaining quality and balance.

Facilities

The practice is exceptionally well equipped, including:

  • Advanced orthopaedic capabilities (including TPLO and external fixation)
  • Modern anaesthesia and monitoring equipment
  • Ultrasound with Doppler functionality
  • Flexible endoscopy and advanced imaging tools
  • Laparoscopy, arthroscopy, and rhinoscopy
  • Dental radiography and therapeutic laser
  • Point-of-care diagnostics and blood gas analysis
  • Advanced skin mass assessment technology
  • On-site rehabilitation services including physiotherapy and hydrotherapy

Further advanced imaging and CT facilities are scheduled to go live later this year as part of the expansion.

The Team

The multidisciplinary team includes a large group of experienced Veterinary Surgeons, Registered Veterinary Nurses, Student Veterinary Nurses, Veterinary Care Assistants, and dedicated client care and administrative staff. Communication and collaboration are prioritised through regular clinical and practice-wide meetings, ensuring every team member has a voice.

The Role

This is a true experienced Veterinary Surgeon position with the opportunity to manage a varied and interesting caseload aligned to individual strengths and interests.

Key aspects include:

  • Managing cases independently while collaborating closely with colleagues
  • Scope to develop subspecialty interests and pursue certificates
  • Involvement in clinical discussions, audits, and service development
  • Informal mentoring of junior vets if desired
  • Potential future pathway to partnership (subject to mutual fit and timing)

Rota & Working Pattern

  • 4-day working week with a generally fixed day off
  • 1 in 4 weekends
  • No nights or on-call duties
  • Out-of-hours and inpatient care covered externally

The Ideal Candidate

  • 5+ years’ post-graduate experience in small animal practice
  • Confident with routine soft tissue surgery and diagnostic imaging
  • Comfortable managing or appropriately triaging more complex cases
  • A growth mindset with enthusiasm for learning, sharing knowledge, and raising standards
  • Ideally working towards, or already holding, a relevant certificate (e.g. surgery, medicine, imaging, ECC, dentistry)

Rewards & Benefits

  • Salary £55,000–£65,000 DOE, with additional uplift for certificate holders and Advanced Practitioners
  • Quarterly bonus scheme (team and individual components)
  • 4 weeks’ annual leave plus bank holidays and an additional birthday day off
  • £2,500 CPD allowance plus 5 days, with full support for certificates
  • Paid professional fees
  • Enhanced maternity pay
  • Company pension scheme
  • Retail, lifestyle, and wellbeing benefits

Why Apply?

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon seeking long-term development, advanced facilities, and a genuinely supportive culture within a progressive Buckinghamshire practice.
