Salary up to £100,000 (DOE, FTE)
3–4 days per week | Senior / Clinical Lead opportunities available

A well-established small animal practice in Essex is seeking an experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic Veterinary Surgeon to join its friendly and supportive team. The Practice

This first-opinion practice has been serving its local community for over a decade and is known for delivering high-quality, compassionate care. The practice is well equipped with in-house laboratory facilities and modern diagnostics, including ultrasound, digital X-ray, and multiparameter monitoring.

The caseload is predominantly dogs and cats, with some small furries and exotics. Vets benefit from a broad and interesting surgical and medical caseload, supported by visiting advanced practitioners in small animal surgery, including orthopaedics.

Clinical freedom is actively encouraged, with regular clinical meetings and in-house CPD ensuring consistently high standards across the team.

The Team

The team includes experienced Veterinary Surgeons, Registered Veterinary Nurses, a Student Veterinary Nurse, Veterinary Care Assistants, and a dedicated client care team. The practice fosters a close-knit and collaborative culture, with strong support from a wider regional network and regular social activities outside of work.

The Role

This position is suited to an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who is confident in routine consults and surgery and enjoys working within a supportive team environment.

Key details include:

  • Ideally 3–4 days per week (9:00am–7:00pm)
  • 1 in 4 weekends on a rota basis
  • No out-of-hours work and minimal bank holidays
  • Opportunity to take on Senior or Clinical Lead responsibilities
  • Clinical freedom to manage cases to best practice standards

The surgical caseload includes (but is not limited to):

  • Neutering
  • Mass removals
  • Dentistry
  • Basic ophthalmic procedures
  • Emergency surgeries (e.g. pyometra, caesarean sections, foreign bodies, cystotomies)
  • Surgical and non-surgical wound management

The Ideal Candidate

  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon
  • Ideally 3–4+ years’ experience in UK small animal practice
  • Confident in routine surgery and consultations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Passionate about animal welfare and high-quality patient care
  • A team player with the ability to work independently
