Job Title: Veterinary Surgeon – Small Animal

Location: Cheltenham

Job Type: Part-time (2–3 days per week, including some Saturdays)

Salary: £65,000 (Pro-Rata), dependent on experience

Job Overview

An independent and growing small animal veterinary practice in Cheltenham is seeking a motivated Veterinary Surgeon to join its experienced and supportive team on a part-time basis. This role is ideal for a clinician who enjoys working up cases, delivering high-quality care, and being part of a collaborative practice that values clinical standards, continuity of care, and professional satisfaction.

The practice is independent, forward-thinking, and continuing to develop in response to opportunities within the profession. Administrative and operational support is well established, allowing vets to focus on clinical work and patient care.

The Veterinary Team

The veterinary team consists of experienced clinicians with a broad range of interests, including surgery, medicine, and diagnostic imaging. The practice encourages collaboration, shared learning, and open discussion of cases, creating a positive and supportive clinical environment.

Clinical Work & Facilities

The practice offers a wide range of diagnostic and surgical services and is well equipped with advanced technology, including CT imaging and ultrasound. Visiting specialist surgeons are used where appropriate, allowing continuity of care while providing opportunities for in-house learning and skill development.

An external out-of-hours provider is used, meaning there is no on-call requirement. In selected cases, nursing staff may provide inpatient care to ensure excellent continuity for patients and clients.

Candidate Requirements

Degree in Veterinary Medicine

RCVS registration

Good routine small animal medical and surgical skills

A positive, team-focused approach

Interest in developing clinical skills and contributing to a growing independent practice

Professional Development & CPD

The practice places strong emphasis on professional development and regularly provides bespoke CPD for the whole veterinary team. Previous CPD has included imaging, ultrasound, CT, ophthalmology, and other clinical disciplines. Support and funding toward postgraduate certificates are available for candidates with an interest in further qualifications.
